I am working forRhythm & Hues Studios as an Effects Technical Director, focusing on some R&D and large scale fluid physical simulations, based in Los Angeles. The current productionis a Feature Film Percy Jackson & the Olympians: Sea of Monsters, which is produced by Fox 2000 Pictures.
The earlier production I participated as FX TD/Artist was The Life of Pi Feature Film, directed by Ang Lee. I believe it is currently opening in theaters in Korea. I was handling critical amount of the hero simulations fluid shots effects. I hope you would enjoy the VFX work on Life of Pi.
HOW DID YOU GET INTO 3D VFX INDUSTRY?
I am originally from China. I studied Computer Science at the Huaqiao University in China. After the college, I went to Entertainment Technology Center in Carnegie Mellon University, based in Pittsburgh, PA for my further Master’s degree study, in CMU I mainly working on video games and digital interactions development.
During some research projects, I worked with Microsoft for a Windows 7 phone app offering meaningful visual avatar social interactions; I collaborated with Beijing based Auto-Stereo 3D company SuperD Ltd, creating Auto-Stereoscopic 3D Games, etc. I also did a year long research in Electronic Arts.
But I have always been more into feature films visual effects developing since I was in high school. So after I have had more than 5 years of academic and professional experience in the fields of computer graphics, dynamic simulation and computer vision, I made a bold transition into effects, dynamics and fluid simulations. And so far as I know, I enjoy the uncertainty and challenges I have in my work, also I like the great chemistry in the team work as an effective and critical team player.
